Crank Arm Brewing in Raleigh won Best of Show in the N.C. State Fair’s 2014 N.C. Brewers’ Cup competition, organized by the N.C. Craft Brewers Guild and presented by All About Beer Magazine.
Asheville’s Hi-Wire Brewing’s nabbed second-best overall for its Hi-Wire Lager, and Hillsborough’s Mystery Brewing, garnered third overall with Batch #1 Golden Ale.
In the home-brewer competition, Brandon Moyer won Best of Show for his Klassic Kolsch. Dennis Pike was second overall with his Vienna Lager called Milk is for Babies. Robert Lovelace placed third overall with Trey’s Lite Beer.
In the competition’s third year, the number of entries increased from 391 to 410. The competition had 228 professional entries and 182 home-brew entries. Entries were evaluated by 30 professional beer judges September 6 and 7 at Mystery Brewing Company in Hillsborough. Top winners will be displayed in the Education Building at the N.C. State Fair Oct. 16-26.
