Congratulations go out to our amazing scholarship winners! We are very excited to have the 2017 Women in Brewing, Veterans in Brewing, and Brewers of Color scholars joining us at the North Carolina Craft Brewers Conference this year and bring their perspectives to the three-day long event. This year’s scholars include Kerstyn Velazquez, Maria Speaks, Sherri Arden, Jeff Brungard, John Duncan, Briana Brake, Donnie Stone, and Jarvis Roberts.
This year’s scholar line up include individuals who have been in this industry for anywhere from six months to fourteen years and are employed by both new and established breweries. Our Education Committee was again challenged to select from a large pool of applicants. Here’s what this year’s scholars are most excited about:
Kerstyn Velazquz‘s family will be launching their new brewery in late 2017 (she currently works with Quick Trigger Brewing Co). She is eager to bring the information she gleans from the conference back to her family to apply to their new venture.
Maria Speaks (Waterline Brewing) is excited about all the seminars. She’s ready to sit in all the sessions to bring information back to share with her Wilmington beer community.
Sherri Arden (Durty Bull Brewing Co) is ready to network with all her fellow female brewers. Be sure to check out the Pink Boots Society meeting, Sherri!
John Duncan (The Sneak E Squirrel Brewery) is gearing up for the technical brewing seminars, and hopes to pick up some new marketing strategies while he’s at it.
Jeff Brungard (Tight Lines Pub & Brewing Co.) started as a homebrewer in ’96. He’s looking forward to meeting vendors and checking out the trade show.
Briana Brake (Spaceway Brewing Co) started her brewing career with ginger beer. She is pretty excited about seeing what awesome beers other brewers bring to the conference.
Donnie Stone (Bill’s Brewing Company) and Jarvis Roberts (York Chester Brewing Company) are the last two recipients of this year’s round of scholarships – we are very excited to have them to round out the line-up.
Of course, none of these scholarships would be possible without our gracious sponsors. Our sincerest thanks go out to New Belgium Brewing, the Beer Army Foundation, Bull Durham Beer Co., Rocky Mount Brewmill, Fullsteam Brewery, and Strike & Techel Law Firm. Thank you for helping us make the NC Craft Brewers Conference great!
You can meet our 2017 scholars in person next week at the 2017 NC Craft Brewers Conference in Winston-Salem. Hope to see you there!
